| BeauSoleil performs traditional and original music rooted in the folk tunes of the creole and Cajun people of Louisiana. In 1997 they won their first Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album. More recently, their album "Live At The 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival BeauSoleil & Michael Doucet" earned them thier third Grammy in 2009. | Roots rocker Cathy Richardson grew up in west suburban Burr Ridge, Illinois. Before starting her music career, Richardson worked as an auto mechanic and as a cashier at her father's gas station. She started her music career full-time in 1990. She portrayed Janis Joplin in the original cast of the hit Off-Broadway musical Love, Janis. | Terrance Simien was born September 3, 1965 in Mallet, Louisiana, and is a zydeco musician. He and his band won the Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album for 2007. Zydeco music was originally created at house dances, where black creole families and friends of southwest Louisana gathered for socializing. Photos were taken at Fitzgerald's American Music Festival on July 4, 2009. |
