Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, formed in Austin, Texas in 2007. Their first full length album "Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!" was released on March 17, 2009. The music is gritty, classic soul and blues, drawn directly from James Brown, Otis Redding, and Lightnin' Hopkins. The outcome is a dynamic, and contemporary style, reminiscent of the raw Memphis soul that emerged from Stax Records in the 1960s. I took the above photo at Lincoln Hall in Chicago, on June 29, 2010.
