Shemekia Copeland

Shemekia Copeland was born in Harlem on April 10, 1979. She is the daughter of the late Texas blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland. When she was in her 20s, she opened for the Rolling Stones. Guitar Shorty was born on September 8, 1939, in Houston, Texas, and is a blues guitarist. Right out of high school at the age of 16 Shorty joined Ray Charles and his band for a year. He has also played with Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Little Richard, and Sam Cooke. In 1961 he met his wife, Marcia, in Seattle. When Shorty married Marcia he also got Jimi Hendrix for a brother-in-law. Photos were taken at the Chicago Blues Festival on June 13, 2010.
