Great Smoky Mountains National Park
At nearly a mile high, we began our eight mile hike to Mt. LeConte at the Newfound Gap Trailhead. It was significantly cooler and much more windy than the surrounding lowlands. Mt. LeConte is the third highest mountain in Great Smoky Mountains National Park at an elevation of 6,593 feet.
