Canyonlands
On May 3, 2008, I flew to Salt Lake City and drove 280 miles south to Moab. On the 4th, Tex's Riverways dropped me off at Mineral Bottom for my 52 mile, 5 day trip down the Green River to the confluence of the Colorado River.
The photo on the right is of the Colorado River as I hiked up from Spanish Bottom to The Dollhouse area on the canyon rim.
This is my campsite on my second night in Stillwater Canyon. I explored the canyon behind my tent which quickly ended at a pour-off.
The animals that visited my camp were three different species of Whiptail Lizards, which were constantly darting about, and at dusk dozens of bats flew around for hours. The Western Pipistrelle is the most abundant bat in Canyonlands. Within the park, there are 16 native species of bats.
